Spaghetti Dinner for Lithuanian Children

Last Saturday I went to St. Johns church in Pocasset for a spaghetti dinner which donated money to Lithuanian children. For this activity I had to help set tables two hours prior to the start and then i helped to get all the food and drinks ready and I cut the bread. After the dinner started i sat at the door to collect money and do the raffle tickets. The dinner went pretty well and I worked very well with others as well as engaging an issue of global importance. Although there were not too many people who came to the dinner, we did make a few hundred dollars and over all the dinner was a success.

Auction in Buzzards Bay

For the auction that I did in Buzzards Bay that was put on by the Buzzards Bay Beautification Society I had to both work with others and help plan what would go on after the auction and where we would put the left over things that did not sell. I worked with others by helping to set up the tables and to help put together the list of items and staple the packets together. Also, after the auction I had to stay to clean up and to help load up the truck that was rented in order to help people receive items that they bought that were to big to put in their own cars as well as to bring unsold items to salvation army to be donated. Overall the auction went really well and most of the items were sold. All of the proceeds went to the town of Bourne.

Baseball

I have only been able to go to one baseball practice so far because I have been doing my driving time for drivers ed so that I can get my license. However I did attend one practice so far which went well and I got back into the mindset of playing baseball. Also, last Saturday I attended Lowell Park in Cotuit at 9:30 AM to help clean up the field and set up our new batting tunnel. This was a fun experience and it was good to help clean the field and the woods around the batting tunnel. Also, it feels good to be able to set up our batting tunnel and earn it as well as earning our privilege to play on one of the best fields on Cape Cod.

My second experience doing videotaping for Mrs. Peterson was a lot harder than the first. On Wednesday night I had to videotape a presentation from the seniors to the parents of sophomores about the IB and about different courses that the kids can take. This was a lot harder than the first time i did videotaping for Mrs. Peterson because i had to rush back to the school after baseball practice that got out at 6:40 and be at the school at 7 o'clock. When i got to the school I had to get the camera's and tripods out of Mr. Steedman's office and set them up in two rooms. I set up one camera in room 204 and then gave Zach Crockford, who I worked with to videotape the two presentations, the camera and tripod for the music room and he set that up. The camera I used this time was different from the first time and i also had a tripod that i did not have the first time i did videotaping. Having a tripod helped me a lot and allowed me to capture the seniors very easily and switch from person to person very smoothly. The only new challenge that I faced was that the zoom on the new camera was very slow zooming in and out and it took a while to pan from a person's face back to the view of everyone. I also learned how to operate the camera more smoothly and learned a few techniquies that helped me to switch quickly but smoothly from person to person.

VideoCAS

On Monday, March 15, I came to school in the morning and instead of going to class i had the opportunity to videotape a presentation from the seniors to sophomores about the IB and C.A.S. This was an interesting experience because I had to come quickly to the music room where I would be videotaping and make sure I was all set up. I also learned how to use and set up the small video camera that I had not used before. This was a new skill that i learned in a matter of minutes because the sophomores came in right after i was set up. Also, videotaping proposed a new challenge to me because i had not had to videotape anything that smoothly or seriously before. It was difficult to swivel the camera smoothly and zoom in correctly on people as they were speaking because the camera was a lot older and did not have a tripod or a screen to look at while I was recording. I did well, however, and overcame the new challenge of using this old video camera and i got the video footage that was needed by Mrs. Peterson.

Polar Express Train ride

This entry is about two weeks late seeing as i forgot to do it over vacation and then just forgot again and again. Friday, November 27, I helped out the "Buzzards Bay Beautification Society" with an even called the "Polar Express." Basically what goes on during the event is that there are a couple small fires and hot dogs and hot chocolate, as well as live music. All of which are enjoyed while waiting for a train to come. The train ride is one big reenactment of the Polar Express movie. My job for the event was to help set up all the tents and food and signs and lighting, as well as to collect tickets and make sure everyone got on that had a ticket. My job was pretty difficult because i had to be outside the whole time and it was about 34 degrees and very windy, but overall the event was a success and both the first and second trains were full and all of the tickets were sold.

Golf Match Vs. Mashpee

Yesterday was a very important golf match against Mashpee. We needed to win this match in order to go to states. However, we didn't win. I played number 4 against a girl that was a freshman and my match score was 7-2. However, our Team overall did not win. This was a big disappointment to the team and everyone was down after. We still have two matches left, one today against Abington that I am not playing in because i need to stay after for help, and one tomorrow against Mashpee again. Hopefully we will win these and increase our record. Although, if we do not, the season was still very good and a lot of fun.
